EQUATE’s Initiative for a Healthy Society (Lighten Up) participated with Ministry of Health’s walking festival, which was held under the auspices of Kuwait’s Minister of Health Roudhan Al-Roudhan.
The event was attended by Ministry of Health Under Secretary for Technical Services Dr. Khalid Al-Sahlawi who visited Lighten Up’s venue at the festival. Dr. Al-Sahlawi, who was briefed by Lighten Up’s team, expressed appreciation for initiative’s activities at schools and other public places, stressing the need to raise anti-obesity awareness among society to combat its risks.
Al-Sahlawi noted that lack of physical activity has been has been one of the main causes of death in the world, pointing out to World Health Organizations (WHO) statistics that counted 2 million deaths per year caused by lack of physical activity and improper diet.
Part of EQUATE Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Program, (Lighten Up) initiative aims to create awareness about the dangers of obesity, and to highlight the importance of following a healthy lifestyle through proper dieting habits, maintaining the right weight and exercising. EQUATE Vice President for Technical Services and head of EQUATE CSR Team, Mahmoud Al-Qattan lauded the Ministry of Health’s proactive role to protect the society from chronic diseases, thanking them for inviting “Lighten Up” initiative to participate in the festival.
Al-Qattan noted that “Lighten Up” is part of EQUATE CSR Program which has already launched several sustainable development initiatives in various fields, such as the breast cancer awareness campaign and plastic awareness campaign.
