The Public Interacts with (Lighten Up) at The Avenues

Under the auspices of Ministry of Health’s Deputy Undersecretary for Health Care, Dr. Qais Al-Dowairi, EQUATE Petrochemical Company held an open day at the Avenues Mall as part of EQUATE Initiative for a Healthy Society (Lighten Up).

Part of EQUATE Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Program, (Lighten Up) initiative aims to create awareness about the dangers of obesity, and to highlight the importance of following a healthy lifestyle through proper dieting habits, maintaining the right weight and exercising. The anti-obesity initiative started in last January and continues till the end of this year.

Ministry of Health’s Deputy Undersecretary Dr. Qais Al-Dowairi lauded the initiative’s direct approach through which the (Lighten Up) team members met with the public  and offered free medical checkups and free tips on how to keep a healthy weight.

“The campaign indicates a high level of health awareness among volunteering EQUATE employees and the public who seems to interact very positively with the campaign,” said Dr. Al-Dowairi.

EQUATE Vice President for Technical Services and head of EQUATE CSR Team, Mahmoud Al-Qattan said that EQUATE initiated (Lighten Up) as qualitative campaign against obesity, noting that the success of this open day would be measured by the level of awareness it communicates to the society’s individuals about obesity and its health risks.

Al-Qattan noted that (Lighten Up) is part of EQUATE CSR Program which has already launched several sustainable development initiatives in various fields, such as the breast cancer awareness campaign and plastic awareness campaign.

Al-Qattan said that the positive interaction of the public was very encouraging for the campaign’s team, promising that (Lighten Up) would continue directly interacting with the society in visits to schools and other public places.

Al-Qattan thanked  Ministry of Health’s Deputy Undersecretary Dr. Qais Al-Dowairi for his support as well as (Lighten Up’s) team members who included volunteering EQUATE employees and doctors from Kuwait Obesity Association.

Launched last January, Lighten Up’s first phase included public service announcements via television, radio, newspapers and magazines as well as website (www.khaffif.com).
