EQUATE takes “Lighten Up” to the Avenues
The team of EQUATE’s Initiative for a Healthy Society (Lighten Up) will meet next Friday with the public to offer free medical checkups and provide tips on how to keep a healthy weight.
“This initiative aims to create awareness about the dangers of obesity, and to highlight the importance of following a healthy lifestyle through proper dieting habits, maintaining the right weight and exercising,” said EQUATE Vice President for Technical Services and head of EQUATE CSR Team, Mahmoud Al-Qattan.
“Lighten Up” initiative, Al-Qattan explained, commenced its first phase at the beginning of this year with a media campaign to spread awareness. In its second phase, the “Lighten Up” team has been visiting schools to educate students and faculty about the obesity issue.
“The staggering success of the team’s visit to the school encouraged them to continue interacting directly with the public in a visit to the Avenues mall on Friday, March 13th,” added Al-Qattan. The initiative’s team and doctors from Kuwait Obesity Association will be at the Avenues all day long.
Al-Qattan noted that Lighten Up is part of EQUATE CSR Program which has already launched several sustainable development initiatives in various fields, such as the breast cancer awareness campaign and plastic awareness campaign.
Dr. Majda Al-Qattan, Family Medicine Consultant and member of Kuwait Obesity Association (KOA) said that ‘Lighten Up’ team will meet with the public to communicate to them the benefits of maintaining a normal weight. “Overweight, no matter how slight, could lead to serious health complications and the public should be aware of this fact.”
EQUATE volunteers assisted by KOA specialists will be at the Avenues mall from 10 am until 8 pm to provide free Body Mass Index (BMI) measurement for the public in addition to gifts and awareness brochures, said Dr. Al-Qattan.
Part of EQUATE Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Program, Lighten Up is an anti-obesity initiative to spread awareness regarding the benefits of maintaining a healthy diet and an active lifestyle. Launched last January , Lighten Up’s first phase included public service announcements via television, radio, newspapers and magazines as well as website (www.khaffif.com).
